In physical chemistry, there is always a need to measure physical quantities and these measurements involves a numerical ratio between two samples of quantity; one which has to be measured and other one being some standard sample of any kind. Let us suppose we have to measure a wooden stick; then we will compare this stick to the standard metre stick and we will have the measure how long the wooden stick is.
