The silk moth is also known as bombyx mori. It is also referred as mulberry silk. It occurs in the domestic places and never occurs in the wild regions. It is known as Resham ka Kida in Hindi. It occurs in almost everywhere in the world. In India it is mainly found in Mysore and Kashmir. The silk is produced from silk moth. The adults do not eat food and live for couple of days. The males die after copulation and females die after laying eggs. They are nocturnal and their wings are horizontal when they are not in use. The adults are healthy and white in color. The head has couple of antennae, compound eyes and vestigial mouth region. Their body is covered by scales. They show sexual dimorphism with separate male and female sexes. The male silk moth is smaller in size as compared to the female silk moth. A mulberry silk moth is the most important insect. The silk is obtained by the rearing of silk moth known as sericulture. It is practiced in many countries of the world. In this pupa is killed inside the hot water. A single cocoon can give rise to 1000 metres of silk. The butterfly is diurnal with no robust body. Their wings are horizontal when they are not in use. However, the moth is nocturnal with robust covering. Their wings are vertical when they are not in use.
