Definitions Related To Monera

Nucleoid is the genetic product of Kingdom Monera. It is also known as genophore or chromoneme. It has single circular strand of DNA. DNA has no association with proteins and there is no nuclear envelope. It is also known as Naked.

Plasmids
are extra chromosomal, self replicating segments of DNA. They are independent and unique. They also play an important role in fertility. Some of the plasmids are not independent they are associated with nucleoid are known as Episomes.

Inclusion Bodies – They are present in cytoplasm and do not have any life. They may occur freely or may be bounded. They are further divided into these subtypes:

Gas Vacuoles are inclusion bodies which store gas and are found in chromatophoric bacteria. They have no covering and varying shapes of gas vesicles. A gas vesicle is surrounded by membrane which is permeable to atmospheric gases and impermeable to water. So it provides a stabilizing force in water during photosynthesis.

Inorganic Inclusions
are granules made up of metals like iron, sulphur, and magnetite. So they have ability to get colored with dyes. The most common granules are volutin (storage for phosphate) and sulphur. They take into account the stability along geo magnetic lines.

Food Reserve
consists of multi color algae which have starch, lipid globules etc. However, in bacteria starch is replaced by glycogen. There are no fats present in it.
