The biomes are also known as the major ecosystems. They are unique in the climatic conditions and have specific plant and animal life. They are the largest ecological units of the world. The biome depends upon many factors. It includes the range of temperature, latitude and altitude, the duration and intensity of seasons and the rainfall, the characteristics of a soil, topography and physical barriers and the water mass. The biomes are mainly of two types. These are mainly terrestrial and aquatic. The terrestrial biomes include the latitudinal and altitudinal biomes. The latitudinal biomes are the largest land biomes which are affected by the latitude and altitude, the duration and intensity of the rainfall mainly. They are of multiple types like tundra, taiga, deciduous, tropical rain, chaparral, tropical savannah, desert and the grassland.
